and then, of course, were chanting some very, very nasty things about the united states. the riot police finally seemed to tate upper hand early this morning. the numbers in the crowd went down. they came through tahrir square and cleared things out. finally being able to actually get the rest of the protesters out and so far, none of them have come back. there was one person who was killed in the battle overnight. he was shot with what's called bird shot, which means at some point, the egyptians were authorized to put in shotgun shells and use them against this crowd. that goes to show how serious egyptian police have been coming about protecting the embassy here. global media reports there was a credible threat by a jihadi group based in the sinai peninsula against the american embassy here and over the past couple of days, we have seen a huge amount of presence around the american embassy, including the egyptian building concrete walls in the middle of the street, not only to prevent cars from approaching the u.s. embush era tax cuts but also now to prevent any people from getting wit
